    FolderShare gets a facelift

It's been almost 2 1/2 years since FolderShare was acquired by Microsoft.  When we (the FolderShare team) joined Microsoft, we didn't have any idea of how interesting (and challenging) the journey would be.  You only need to look back at all the changes (here, here, & here) that have taken place in the MSN - Windows Live group at MS during that time to get an idea of what we encountered.

I'm really excited about this release.  FolderShare was in bad need of a new paint job.  The UX now looks polished and like it belongs with the other Windows Live services.  We've even worked on the usability to (hopefully) make it easier to create libraries and get started with the service.  I'm glad to see we're continuing to support the Mac client.  Unfortunately we weren't able to release a new OS X client today with the updated website and Windows client, but I would expect to see a new and improved Mac client later this year.

While Tom & Michael (two of my colleagues at FolderShare) no longer work at the company, I know they're as excited as I am about having Microsoft -finally- ship this updated version.  Congrats to the FolderShare team on an awesome release!  Can't wait to see what in store for the service over the next year.

So I broke down and bought an iPhone

All I can say is that this device certainly lived up to the hype.  I'm so impressed with the fit/finish and just the entire UX.  Congrats to Apple for a job well done.  After retiring yet another phone in favor of the latest and greatest it caused me to reflect back on the last 10 years from when I got my first cell phone to carrying an iPhone today.  Here's a timeline in photos.

    6160    treo300   treo600      2125     iphone

    2000-2002  2002-2004   2004-2006  2006-2007    2007

I was able to remember all of them except my first Samsung on Sprint back in 1998.  Also of note, I'm also replacing my 20 GB iPod G2 that's closing in on 4 years old with the iPhone.  Hoping I get 4 years out of this one (yeah right).

    Windows Live Folders has shipped!!

The project I've been working on at Microsoft has finally been released.  It's still in beta and if you missed the first window to get in, add your name to the list as we'll gradually be opening it up over the coming months.  We're planning to add some pretty cool features in future versions, so stay tuned.

Here's a photo of our team during the launch.  That's me in the background with the white shirt.  And of course... I had to share this with a Live Folder.

"Live Folders" made it to the top of Techmeme

Glad to see the blogosphere is still eagerly awaiting "Live Drive" or "Live Folders" or whatever its called these days.
Check out the coverage and comments on TechCrunch.

    classic Windows video

I came across this today.  In light of the big campaign around Vista currently underway, I thought I'd share this blast from the past.  This could be one of the cheesiest things I've ever seen.  It gets really good about 3 minutes in.

Keep iTunes in sync with FolderShare

One of things I use FolderShare for is to keep my music in sync between my different computers.  If I buy a song from the iTunes store at home I want to be able to listen to it at work without having to copy it to flash drive, email, etc.  That's where FolderShare is great, but what isn't great is that even after all the new songs have synced between the computers you still have to manually tell iTunes to look for new music.  This has always been the one hiccup in an otherwise perfect "multi PC music managment solution", until now.

I read about a utility called iTLU (iTunes Library Updater) this now takes care of that annoying need to manually update your library.  You can download iTLU here.  I haven't had time to install this yet myself so I can't speak directly how well it works or not, but it sounds like just the thing I need.  I plan to play around with it this weekend.

    Above the Space Needle

Here's a shot I took from a sea plane we took from Victoria, B.C. back to Seattle.  If you haven't been on a sea plane, the take offs and landings are much smoother than a traditional runway.

    Fremont Solstice Parade

We had been told by everyone that we've got to check out the summer solstice parade in Fremont.  This parade is known for the nude bicyclists that start if off every year.  I never thought I could see too many nake people.  Well I did!

I've included a few pics.  We were about half way down the parade route and these folks cruised by at least 4 or 5 times ahead of the rest of the floats.  Even though we got tired of George riding by on his unicycle, the festival was a lot of fun.  Good food and music.  We'll be back next year.

    Seattle Skyline

I'm always impressed with the skyline we have for relatively "small" big city.  This is the view from Gasworks Park. Austin's skyline is about 1/4 the size.

    Gasworks Park

After work I took a walk down to Gasworks Park.  This is at the south end of my neighborhood and the north side of Lake Union.
